Museums

Henschel's Indian Museum

Located on an archeological dig site, this museum features a collection of Native American copper, pottery and other artifacts dating from 8,000 B.C.  Open Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Sheboygan County Historical Museum
3110 Erie Avenue, Sheboygan, WI 53081
Museum complex includes a stately brick building reflecting Judge David Taylor’s career and the era of 1850-1900; the 1864 Weinhold Family Homestead; the 1890’s Schuchardt Barn with rural agricultural displays; and the 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory with early commercial cheese making implements. A recent addition of 20,000 sq. ft features seasonal displays, temporary exhibits, classroom, and the museum store. Changing exhibits include Indian history, ice harvesting, maritime, circus, local sports, medical pharmaceutical, early agricultural and related trades. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Wade House State Historic Site
W7965 State Highway 23, Greenbush, WI 53026
A refurbished stagecoach inn dating from 1850 is the highlight of a historical complex that also features the Wesley Jung Carriage Museum and Herrling Sawmill. The site offers a glimpse of life in the area around the time of the first white settlers through tours, a theatre with wide screen presentations and horse-drawn carriage rides through the grounds. Open Seasonally.

Wesley Jung Carriage Museum

Home to Wisconsin's most extensive and diverse collection of carriages, sleighs, wagons, and more, the Wesley W. Jung Carriage Museum contains 70 horse- and hand-drawn vehicles. Self-guided tours allow you to explore, at your own pace, the vehicles that transported people and goods so important to a growing American economy.

Herrling Saw Mill

This authentic 1860's replica of a working water-powered sawmill is located at the Wade House Historic Site. Demonstrations are given daily. Open Seasonally.

Elkhart Lake Depot Museum
Corner of Rhine and Lake Streets, Elkhart Lake, WI 53020
This century-old railroad station houses original depot furnishings and memorabilia that chronicle the resort community's history. Open from Memorial Day through September.

Kohler Design Center
101 Upper Rd, Kohler, WI 53044
A video presentation, art gallery and museum provides a glimpse into the rich heritage of Kohler Co. and the Village of Kohler. The Design Center also features a collection of innovative Kohler Co. products, services and resources that contribute to the gracious living ideal. More than 25 kitchen and bath exhibits showcase the talents of nationally-recognized designers and offer imaginative settings for decorating ideas. Open Mon - Fri, 8 am - 5 pm; Saturday, Sunday and most holidays, 10 am - 4 pm. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Free admission.

Bookworm Gardens is a vibrant, playful garden that enhances children's literature, the natural world, and the imagination. The two acre garden offers the young and young at heart the opportunity for free, unstructured play in a beautiful and secure environment.
